After the frenetic craziness that was yesterday, today was a low-key day with a hotel inspection and day at the Pineapple Beach Resort. Only steps from The Verandah Resort and Spa, this property was formerly the Grand Pineapple Beach Resort, owned by Sandals as one of their ‘budget’ properties however Elite Resorts has taken over and big plans are in store to bring this gem up to the level the location deserves.Located on a gorgeous, wide 400 metre white sand beach protected by a reef a couple of hundred feet out (which makes it swimmable even on windy days), the resort will be going through extensive renovations for 5 weeks starting August 30, so extensive that it will be closed for that period. When completed it will definitely take the quality of the resort up a couple of notches from where Sandals left it and one other big change will take place…it will be an adults only property!
It offers 180 rooms in 5 categories and 80% of the rooms are either ocean view or beach front!! Brand new loungers are in abundance so like The Verandah, you don’t have to claim yours at 6:00 AM. A bar or restaurant/grill is never more than two minutes away and again the Antiguan staff under manager Sanjay never cease to have a smile on their face.
For such a small resort, there are a bevy of eating options available, a buffet, 2 a la carte (Italian and Caribbean fusion) and two grills…and that’s where things get special: a former cook for the Grand Pineapple Beach, 80 year old Mary now makes her own hours BBQ’ing up a storm at the unique Outhouse, a bluff-top outdoor shack with the added bonus of leaving your name (and celebration?) on the walls for perpetuity…and it’s part of your all-inclusive package here!
Speaking of celebrations, a wedding here can be like no other with a bluff-top gazebo or beach for options, an onsite photo studio and special wedding lounge for guests before the big event. There is a second courtyard gazebo that features a webcam so your friends and family at home can watch the nuptials!
It’s Mexican night here at the Verandah so I’m going to get me some…until tomorrow, buenos noches!
