Antigua…the Beach Is Just the Beginning: Day 6 Part 2

Two days ago we left The Verandah Resort and spent the day at Jolly Beach Resort while our bags were taken to our new property, The St. James Club for the final 3 days of our agent trip. At the end of the day we were waylaid for about an hour so we arrived at the St. James after dusk. As we made our way to our rooms in the dark, it looked like a nice resort, clean and agreeable…but when I unlocked the room however, this is what I saw:

This room definitely gave myself and the other agents an unexpected surprise, it had a real ‘wow’ factor. Spacious and luxurious, we were taken aback, maybe because we had just spent the day at a 3 star property so the disparity was great. I decided to look at it again in the morning…nope, it was truly a terrific room and as we wandered the resort, the rest of the property lived up to these expectations as well.IMG_8247

St. James Club is a 100 acre property with 247 rooms in 6 different categories. The first 3 Room levels range in size from 425 to 541 square feet and were still more spacious than most we had seen that week.st-james-club-antigua

The next level, the Royal Suites (where we were located) come in at 567 square feet and feature all of the amenities of the room level but also have a dedicated concierge as well as:

  • Mini fridge, stocked upon arrival with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages
  • Bottle of rum and fruit basket in room upon arrival
  • Complimentary Internet in room
  • Bathrobes in room
  • Beach towels in room
  • Nightly turn-down service

The final level, the Villas are ideal for families or groups with 2 and 3 bedroom options, full kitchens and 2 bathrooms and 2 balconies. With the 2 bedroom starting at 1,600 square feet, you’ll have room to spare.P1070673.JPG

The all inclusive options give you:

  • Breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner daily
  • Unlimited domestic and international alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages
  • Afternoon tea
  • Welcome champagne cocktail upon arrival
  • Use of beach and pool chairs
  • Gratuities
  • Complimentary WiFi hot spot in lobby and garden patio
  • Library
  • Internet Room
  • Kid’s Club
  • Non-motorized watersports

There are five wonderful restaurants and 4 lively bars as well as nightly entertainment to keep you fed and entertained. The food is delicious and with great presentation. As with most places on the island, the Antiguans give top-notch service with a smile…and often a joke.

A note: the rooms and suites are fairly level and accessible however while still accessible (golf carts are available for transportation) the villas, spa and Piccolo Mondo restaurant are on the hillside with steps to some of the levels.

While many tour operators say this is a 4 to 4 1/2 star resort, I feel that they provide a 5 star experience. I only wish we could have stayed longer as I didn’t think anything else we saw on the island would compare…that is until today’s inspection of the Galley Bay Resort,  but that’s tomorrow’s post…
